A friend and I were having a discussion about brownies. Specifically the edges. And how superior they are. Cut to my birthday a few weeks ago. An Amazon box arrives. Included is this:

A edge pan. A beautiful piece of kitchen equipment (this pan will outlive me). And a wonderful invention.

Also a very thoughtful gift from a good friend. A friend who will be remembered every time I make brownies. Which, thanks to this pan, will be fairly often.

Have you ever gotten a gift that was unexpected, but oh so perfect?

OMG–this is so funny. I’m one of those people who goes for the middle of the brownie pan. If there’s a whole pan of brownies and one square gone in the dead center of it, I would be the likely suspect.

But yes–perfect gifts. I can think of several. One was just before summer. A book was coming out that I desperately wanted. I bought it the second it released. Two days later I met up with a friend I hadn’t seen in a while. He handed me a wrapped present, a belated birthday gift. Without even opening it, I knew what it was. It’s lovely when friends know–really know–what you like. (And now I can gift the one I bought…)

Well, I guess next time we have dinner I’ll make two pans of brownies! But you are right–friends who just know. Awesome.

What do you think? Let me know?
